How to Update and Flash BMW ECU via ICOM WinKFP

This is the user guide of how to update or flash a BMM ECU using WinKFP via a INPA K+DCAN cable ( some also called it ICOM cable).

First, the tools
If you want to update your car yourself in to easiest way possible…you’ll need:
– A powerful laptop
– Download and install ISTA-P
(standalone links available all over net; if you wanna use a tested version with safety, go to a online shop to buy it- http://www.obdii365.com/wholesale/v201703-bmw-icom-software.html it’s a good man of his word to trust in)
– A cable; that is an ICOM cable
(If you want to update CAS then k+dcan cable is enough.)
– At least a 50a power supply, better 70a, to keep car at 13.8v while updating modules.
– Time. Depending on what modules you’ll have the update will take several hours.

Next, preparation for ECU update
You need to import all sp-daten files to WINKFP. Files preparation is the important thing first.
Then you need to have extra power supply connected to your battery.
After this you are ready to flash your ECU. CAS should be updated without key in slot (ignition off).
If you didn’t do it before you should be really careful, it’s easy to brick module.

Finally, update ECU with WinKFP
  1. configure

Winkfp update a bmw ecu successfully!
Alternatively, go to dealer, whinge about a problem and suggest a software update…
Or the hard way. As above, but use winkfp with a download set of daten files (google for links). Use comfort mode in winkfp to update modules then code to default after with ncs expert…

ENET Cable E-sys 3.26.1 Update BMW NBT 2017-1 Map

This is about how to update BMW NBT map to 2017.01 version, at a low cost (within $20), using anBMW ENET cable bmw and E-sys v3.26.1. Here, i would like to update NBT maps for the BMW F22.

After doing a bit of research on the bmw forums, there is a ton of good information already out there.

Materials required for process:

#1 You need 20xx-xx *Insert_Country_Here* NEXT Maps (you confirm this from iDrive that your car is indeed running that region, and the map type is NEXT). Different head units use different maps, and they are not cross-compatible, PREMIUM, MOVE, NEXT, etc..

  1. You will also want at-least a 32Gb flash drive to hold the update files formatted as FAT32. It is essentially three Dual-Layer DVD’s worth of Data. You can use three 8Gb drives, but I’ve read some people running into problems with specific brands that format below the minimum.

  1. You need an FSC Activation Code. This is gone about two ways, either you pay someone with BMW Internal Portal access to your VIN’s 1B/DE File, and they can generate it. Or you have a proper ENET cable, and E-SYS and you can retrieve the 1B/DE File, and generate it use the available tools. There is another set of tools called FSC Generator/SWID Reader, but they are only compatible with 32-bit Windows. FSC.exe is not equal to NBT.exe !! NBT is for NEXT, FSC is for old versions.

the NBT.exe file for the process
NITROFLARE – INTERCHANGEABLE LINKS (6 MB)

  1. You need an ENET cable, I had one so I chose to try the E-SYS Route.
Don’t pay more than $20 for one, Make sure he is a good seller with 99%+ feedback and over 1000 positive feedback ratings
http://www.obdii365.com/wholesale/bmw-enet-interface-cable-e-sys-icom-coding-f-series.html

  1. You need a working version of E-SYS, connect to your car as normal.

E-sys 3.26.1 (new)

E-sys 3.23.4 (100% working)

How to get FSC codes with E-sys software:

  1. Open E-Sys and select “Expert Mode” on Left Side
select-expert-mode
  1. Now go to FSC Extended mode. “FSC Extended”
FSC-Extended
  1. Enter Diagnostic Address 0x63
  2. Click Identify
  3. The Base variant should show “HU_NBT”
  4. Enter Application ID 0xDE (for NBT)
  5. Enter Upgrade Index 0x1
  6. Click on Store FSC in the list, and move it to the right by clicking the -> button
  7. Click Read
  8. Click Save and store the file as DE.fsc
save-file
  1. Open up a command prompt window and execute as follows
11a. 2016-1 nbt.exe DE.fsc 0xA8 0x08 <7DIGITVIN>
11b. 2016-2 nbt.exe DE.fsc 0xA8 0x27 <7DIGITVIN>
11c. 2017-1 nbt.exe DE.fsc 0xA8 0x28 <7DIGITVIN>

(A new revelation on this command, you can exclude the 7 Digit VIN option and still produce the same resulting FSC code) Cool trick!
exclude-the-7-Digit-VIN
This will output your FSC Activation Code for the upgrade!
enter-fsc-activation-code
Keep in mind this FSC Activation Code is only good with this Region/Year set of Navigation Updates. You will need a new one every time you perform a new update.

The update process is very straight forward and simple:
  1. Copy the files onto your 32Gb USB Drive
  2. Turn car on and Insert USB Drive into USB port under your arm rest
  3. Car should recognize the USB Drive and notice it’s a nav update
e-sys-update-navi-1
  1. Once you decide to continue it will ask to enter the FSC code, use your iDrive controller to enter this long ass code
ask-to-enter-fsc-code
You may get it wrong first.
click-ok
But try again and write it down clearly
e-sys-update-navi-2
  1. Reap the benefits of an updated navigation system on your BMW. IE. Not getting lost as much, or routed in circles on unknown areas

Also you can always check the status in iDrive by Navigation, and click Options (bottom/right on idrive)
navigation-data-update
Done!

BMW I-level in FRM Problem solved by Ediabas Tool32

Problem:
I need to change I-Level in FRM3 module.
I have problem with BMW ICOM ISTA-P because i have wrong I-Level in used FRM module.
I was looking for change I-level in Ediabas Tool32 and frm3.prg, but i didn’t find right parameter for change I-level in FRM3.
I have problem with reading I-Level from cas and FRM. Please look at screen. I-Level in CAS is empty, I-level in FRM is unreadable.
I-Level in E89.prg is perfect and readable.
Could somebody write me what to do step by step?
cas
frm3
i-level

Final solution from BMW expert:
I-Level in your CAS and FRM is identical:
00 ED = E89X-07-12-515
23 DC = E89X-09-03-520
You can change it by job I_STUFE_SCHREIBEN in E89X.PRG
This job writes I-Level to both ecu CAS&FRM
With args E89X-07-12-515;E89X-09-03-520;E89X-09-03-520 job writes your current I-Level as example
current-i-level
Result:
Took the advice and it worked perfect. Hope it helps.

How to Change BMW F10 Manufacturing Date via E-sys

BMW F-series Zeitkriterium or manufacturing date is an important part of most retrofits that enables the use of BMW ENET cable E-sys to recode a module in order to activate the retrofit.

For example some F10 models came with halogen lights and most owners want to retrofit the LCI xenon headlights for better looks and visibility. The DRL is also very weak on halogen headlights and that ruins the way the car looks compared to the xenon equipped ones.

In this tutorial we will show you how to do it step by step.

Connect to e-sys F-series coding software and choose your chassis

Read FA and activate FA

Click on Save and give the file any name you wish, then click on Edit. Right click on the FA and click Calculate FP.

Edit the Zeitkriterium value accordingly to your needs

Calculate FP again then save

Go to the VCM tab, load the file and calculate FP again

Select VCM Master and Write FA FP

Now that the FA FP has been written to the car you can go ahead and recode your module by going back to the Expert Mode Coding tab, Read SVT to see the modules list, right click on the module name (Ex: FRM) and click on “Code”. Wait for the process to finish and you`re done!

How to code RDC antenna on BMW F25 via ICOM E-sys

Problem:
I recently replaced the RDC antenna on my X3 and it needs to be encoded to work. I currently have BMW ICOM A2 ISTA+ and E-sys with a BMW ENET cable.  I've played with ESYS and got it working, but I'm not sure if flashing the RDC will encode the antenna. Then I took the expert advice to code but not flash with Esys in order to code the module.

Final solution:

Got it done finally. For anyone else in the same boat with a corroded antenna. The RDC antenna on the F25 X3 is just behind the rear passenger wheel. It takes about 5 seconds to disconnect the old one and replace it with a new one. Then it needs to be encoded. Using BMW ENET Esys F-series coding software:

Once connected : -

Expert Mode-Coding

Read FA

Activate FA

Read SVT

Select the 'RDC' ECU

Detect CAFD for SWE

Choose the CAFD you want

Click Code

So basically it's injecting a CAFD file into the module since there wasn't one before.

How to retrofit Cruise Control for BMW F30 F20

This BMW Cruise Control retrofit DIY guide is for F20 or F30 with LIM function only mainly non-US car. The DIY will require you to replace multifunction steering wheel switch and VO Code the car.

What does this DIY do?

Replace and code multifunction steering-wheel switch from LIM function to dynamic cruise control capability on BMW F20 or F30. This will allow the car to have dynamic cruise control capability. The set speed can be selected from 30 km/h to 180 km/h: in convenient steps of 10 or fine steps of 1. The set speed is displayed on the instrument panel via speedo dial and briefly on information display.

enable-cruise-control

Dynamic Cruise Control Dynamic cruise control is an electronic cruise control system with an extra braking function. This also includes the Curve Speed Limiter that reduces the speed in curves for comfortable lateral acceleration. At the end of the curve the car accelerates and resumes the original speed. The driver can change this in increments of 1 or 10 km/h. Acceleration and deceleration in two dynamic settings can be controlled by manipulating the lever on the steering.
Dynamic-Cruise-Control

Brief component description:
Multifunction steering-wheel switch

The multifunction steering wheel contains a horn switch and airbag plus, depending on the model, buttons for controlling the radio, telephone and cruise control. The buttons are split between 2 switch blocks; left and right.

Functional description

The left multifunction steering wheel switch block is directly connected to the right one via a plug connection. This means that all the button signals in the left multifunction steering wheel switch block are detected and digitised in the electronics of the right switch block.

The right multifunction steering wheel switch block sends the signals via the local interconnect network bus to the steering column switch cluster. The steering column switch cluster is the data interface between the local interconnect network bus and FlexRay. All button signals are sent as FlexRay messages.

The right multifunction steering wheel switch block is directly connected to the left one via a ribbon cable.

Installation Instruction for Multifunction Steering Wheel Swtich:

There are two ways to remove air bag. I recommend to remove air bag using the below method as it is easier plus it will not leave any mark on the steering wheel. The BMW method is in the appendix, if you desire to do that way. The toughest part of this DIY is getting the air bag out.

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.

a. This will add safety from unintentional air bag deployment during removal.
Loosen nut (1).

Important!

Do not under any circumstances use force to pull off negative terminal.

Pull off battery earth lead with IBS in an upwards direction, place to one side and secure.
