How to flash a BMW DME or EGS with WinKFP?

Here is the guide to set up and flash a DME or EGS. Look at the steps starting at "Open up WinKFP" below.

- Install BMW Standard Tools 2.12 (EDIBAS, INPA, WinKFP, NCS Expert) and ensure they work with your car.
- WinKFP 5.1.6 (no earlier version than this)
- INPA 5 or higher
- Get the daten files (download, extract from Progman or Ista/p).

- Have jumper cables to another car battery supplying a minimum of 10A power.
- Connect the K-line cable to OBD port on car and USB port on computer.
- Turn the ignition key to position 2.
- Open up WinKFP.
- Select Configuration
- Uncheck Fast baudrate.
- To not increment the flash update counter, uncheck all UIF checkboxes.
- Click OK, cancel all the prompts about creating the new config files, click Ok to save to INI file.
- Select F1 Comfort Mode.
- Select F3 Update ZUSB.
- Select the ECU to update (ex: GD20, GD8604, MDS43, MDS451, etc.).
- Select F4 Enter VIN and paste in the full VIN for the car.
- Select F8 Done.
- Select F3 Prog. ZB-Update to detect current version and latest available update version.
- Click OK to begin flashing.
- It takes 43 minutes for MS45.1, 20 minutes for MS43, 7 minutes for GD20, 12 minutes for GD8604).
- After the confirmation message of flash update complete, close WinKFP.
- Wait one minute.
- Turn off the ignition key.
- Wait one minute.
- Turn on the ignition key to position 2.
- Clear adaptations using either INPA or PA Soft 1.4:
- Start INPA, select DME, Errors, Adaptations.
- Start PA Soft 1.4, select Units, select DME/DDE, select called "DME-EWS Adaptations".
- Clear any error codes in both DME and EGS. Turn off key for one minute. Try again. Do this until all are cleared.

How to set up ISTA-P 2.53.5.003 Native on K+DCAN

It is now easily possible to have ISTA-P and ISTA-D running natively on a modest laptop without multiple virtual machines.

Although slightly out of date, software is now at v54 I believe, it's very powerful. I still use Standard Tools for most things but ISTA-D is a great diagnostic tool. The native install can be updated by simply replacing the ISTAP folder from a newer version. WSM will not be updated of course and ISPI NEXT will soon take over anyway.

Best of all, both work with a $18 INPA K+DCAN cable. Albeit ISTA-P will require a free ICOM Emulator. If you do not have free one, you need to buy.

I have tested this on a 500gb HDD 8gb RAM laptop running win7 x64. Results are very good. Don't worry about ISTA-P MOST requirement. With expert mode you can select which modules you program.

Notes:

Unblock the rar archive before extracting i.e right click > properties > click "unblock".
Use WinRAR V5 to extract.
Ediabas 7.3 needs to be installed
Disable firewall to avoid blocking issues - This is not needed as you can allow all service requests access when the popup appears.
Voltage constant has been added - to remove this form Emulator use:

Basic Instructions:

***Setup your HDD into 3 partitions C - D - E***

C or D can be used as the main install location. 
If you choose C for main install then D and E need only be 2GB partitions.


1. Put the large "apps" folder in the root directory of disk C:

C:\apps

2. Copy the file "WindowCleaner.exe" to C:\Windows\System32\

3. Copy the "ISIS" folder to C:\ProgramData\

Note: ProgramData folder may be hidden. If so go to folder options in control panel to unhide.

4. Copy the "WorkUser" folder to C:\Users\

5. Copy the files START-ISTA.exe and STOP-ISTA.exe to your desktop

6. Rename your Network Card to "Eth0"

7. Write down your PC network card mac address and in file:

D:\apps\WSM\apps\agent\data\DeviceInventory-ISTA_P_53_5_000.xml

change the mac address to match your own

8. Run "Setup.exe" as administrator (also disable your firewall/temporarily disable anti virus)

9. Restart your computer

Notes:

Register your ICOM if needed (ICOM A1 clone is already set up).

Start ISTA using icon on desktop. 

**YOU MUS USE 'STOP-ISTA.EXE' after closing the application.

How to run ISTAP native with K+DCAN interface using ICOM emulator

1. Disable firewall.
2. Remove voltage constant.
3. Extract and copy the ICOM emulator xml files to:

*:\apps\wsm\apps\agent\data\

4. In VMware network editor, ensure "VMnet0" is set to "bridged" and your LAN network adaptor is selected in the drop down menu.

5. In VMware network editor, add a new network called "VMnet3" and set it up as shown in the picture below:


Note: Click "apply" and "ok" and close down VMware.

6. Open VMware again and start emulator using the k+dcan snapshot. Once it has loaded up, go to the vm settings and change network adaptor 1 to "VMnet3(host only)". Click "ok" then wait 30 seconds for network to re-initialise.


note: you can now create new snapshot if you want.

7. Connect K+DCAN cable to emulator and car and run "ifhsrv32" using icon on emulator desktop.

note: ensure k+dcan cable usb icon is active in the vm.

8. Start ISTAP native, start a session and choose "ICOM emulator" in connection manager screen.

note: if everything is ok, the led on your cable should start to flash after a minute or so. If not, recheck emulator settings (i.e. com9, latency timer set to 1 etc.).

How install and setup BMW Standard Tools (SDT) step-by-step?

NOTE: We use INPA K+DCAN cable here.

Ⅰ Install BMW Standard Tools 2.12

1. First must install bmw_std_tools_2.12, go to the folder and launch bmw_std_tools_2.12
Standard_Tools_Setup_2.12.exe to start the installation.

2. Select language and press OK.

3. We are informed that the installation will begin on the computer and it is
recommended to close all other existing applications. Press Next.

4. Accept the license and do next

5. The system will display BMW Standard Tools software information, click on Next to
continue

6. Select the program components you want to install (no need driver). Press Next

7. Then the system will ask you if you want to change the locations of the data on your
drive, leave it to default.

EDIABAS location:

NFS location

INPA location

NCS Expert location:

8. This part of the setup creates a folder in the start menu to gather all launchers

9. Data backup is optional. You can leave the box to avoid a warning message. Then it
will create the icons on the desktop and in the Start menu.

10. You are asked to choose your interface type, STD: ODB for this procedure with K+
DCAN cable.

11. You are asked to choose the serial port to choose com1 and checked the USB box

12. The next program will bring the previous settings information, click “Install” to begin
the installation process.

13. The installation is in progress.

14. If the file does not exist you will get a warning message like 4 times, for our 4
files made. Made just skip each time (The catch is can not be in the good
order)

15. That installation is complete, select “No, I will restart the computer later” option
and click on “Finish” button

16. Now we have to copy the files contained in BMW Standard tools v2.12 ENG 2012 in C:\

If you go into your hard drive you will find at the root folders:

In the
folder BMW Standard tools v2.12 ENG 2012 there are 3 files to copy:

Merged and replaced all when Windows asks you. Do not delete the files and then replace
because you lack data and shall appear bugs.

Ⅱ Configure Cable

1. Installation is completed and we must configure our cable so that it is functional.

2. Connect your K+DCAN cable with computer, Windows will attempt to install a driver.

3. See in the start menu and right click on computer to manage to see this screen:

4. Then go into Device Manager to check if the INPA cable is well connected.

5. Right click and go to property and Driver tab.

Check The driver for Version 2.10.0.0

If this is not the case made to update the driver, search for a driver on my computer

6. Choose the folder location bmw std tools v2.12 ENG 2012 and select the folder K+DCAN Drivers

7. Windows installs the driver, check the driver version and Close.

In the port setting tab, go to Advanced. Check COM port setting. Here we set to COM1.

8. This is our port is configured there is no tested on the vehicle.

Ⅲ Install Rheingold

If your vehicle is recognized you can proceed to install Rheingold 3.**.**. (Latest Rheingold V2015.08 ISTA 3.50)

C: \Ediabas \ Hardware \ OBD ODBSetup.exe start if you have an error launching
Seriel port.reg and repeated.

Installation Rheingold

You must have BMW Standard INPA 2.12 with 5.0.6 and 7.3.0 to run Ediabas rheingold

Rheingold is provided in a version without installation.

Unzip the folder where you want and run it by going to:

testergui \ bin \ relase \ istagui.exe
